I am logged in as my blog admin and have tried to upload a custom header image, but it never works. When I upload it, the next page that comes up is the list of Themes I can choose from. It’s like it cannot overwrite the file, but I don’t receive any permissions notification.

Great post, thank you for taking the time to break it all down.
Using your code above and puring through some Artisteer code, I managed to change one of my Artsiteer templates so that it now has a customizable header option. And best of all it even work just fine in Wordpress MU as well..

So thanks for your great post, saved me a lot of time and frustration.

What if you would like to add an option to position the title on the header image in admin? This by choosing padding or margin of the header title. I have been Googling and trying things all day. No luck yet. Neither with adding PHP myself yet. Still a PHP newbie so I learn by trial and error..

As far as I'm aware, you can only have one custom header per blog. What you could do though, is use conditional tags to show different headers based on the type of page being viewed. One of those headings could be a custom one. Hope that helps.

Probably got a bit confused in the above discussion.

Is it possible to create a separate header that is only applied to certain pages templates created in word press. Have been experimenting but seem to get a fatal error.

So you would have default header for the homepage, and use another header for selected pages.

Just putting it out their
